What are varifocal lenses?
Varifocal lenses combine distance, intermediate and reading vision in one seamless lens. The prescription changes gradually as your gaze moves down the lens, so there is no visible dividing line.
They are a practical choice if you want one pair of glasses for driving, computer work and reading rather than swapping between separate pairs.

We will also consider your frame, prescription and chosen lens design. You do not need to choose a corridor length yourself.

What are varifocal lenses?+
Varifocal lenses combine distance, intermediate and reading vision in one seamless lens. The prescription changes gradually from the top to the bottom without a visible dividing line.
Which varifocal design should I choose?+
Prime HD offers our widest viewing areas and smoothest transitions. Ultra HD balances performance and value, while Intro HD is our most accessible design. Contact us if you would like help deciding.
How much do replacement varifocal lenses cost?+
Intro HD starts from £57, Ultra HD from £89 and Prime HD from £161. Prices vary by lens index, with 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 options available.
Do I need to choose a corridor length?+
No. We assess the varifocal lenses already fitted in your glasses and select the most appropriate corridor length for your new lenses, taking your frame and prescription into account.
Why do you need my current lenses?+
Your existing lenses provide useful information about the design and corridor you are accustomed to. Please leave them fitted in the frame when sending your glasses.
Will I need time to adapt to new varifocals?+
Some wearers notice a short adjustment period, particularly when the prescription or lens design changes. Following the fitting and wearing guidance can help you settle into them.
Can I drive with varifocal lenses?+
Varifocals are designed to provide clear distance vision through the upper part of the lens and can be suitable for driving when prescribed and fitted correctly.
Are varifocals better than bifocals?+
Varifocals provide distance, intermediate and reading vision without a visible line. Bifocals provide two distinct viewing areas separated by a visible segment. The best option depends on your needs and preferences.
Can I have thinner varifocal lenses?+
Yes. We offer 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 high-index options where a slimmer and lighter lens may be beneficial.
Can I add Transitions® or polarised lenses?+
Yes. Transitions® and polarised upgrades are available for an additional £50. Tint and UV is available for an additional £12.
Can you reglaze designer frames?+
Yes, provided the frame is in suitable condition. We inspect every frame before glazing and will contact you if we have any concerns.
How long does varifocal reglazing take?+
Most varifocal orders are completed within 7–10 working days from receiving your glasses, although specialist lenses may take a little longer.
